About Martin Turnbull

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

I have taught for over 20 years in schools and now privately. I taught in state schools for 7 years, teaching music and composition in both primary and secondary schools up to A level.
I am a qualified musician (BMus) teacher (PGCE) and Organist (ARCO), and have taken ABRSM exams in many instruments: Piano VIII (Distinction, 139/150); Organ (Distinction, 139/150); Double Bass (Merit 128/150); Singing VI (Merit 128/150); General Musicianship V (Distinction 131/150); Theory VI (99/99); Flute III.
In my teenage years I played Organ recitals in England and Holland, including Rotterdam Cathedral.
I have played in the following bands: "Metaphor" free improvisation, eclectic; "The Sounding" Jazz/Rock playing mainly my own songs; a party band; and "Half Cut" (a duo with another member from a barbershop quartet I was in, thus the name!) singing and playing songs from the 20's to 60's.
I have done solo original work using an integrated jazz-rock-classical style, and very much enjoyed playing in Residential Homes playing a mixture of Classical and Jazz Piano and 20th century songs.
I have trained choirs and I have been a church organist and band director. I now continue to play in churches and other public venues.
